Memorial Day Sale

To celebrate Memorial Day and help you get your summer reading jumpstarted, we're offering a little sale: get 10% off your entire order plus free standard shipping until the end of May.

Just enter this coupon code during the checkout process: memday06. We'll remove the shipping charges before processing your order.

In addition, we've put the entire collection of books by three of our favorite authors on sale:

Marilynne Robinson Scott Cairns Wendell Berry

These are can't-miss writers. If you don't know their work--or wish to know it better--treat yourself this season to their poetry, their essays, or a novel (or two!) and we promise you a provocative experience and some books you'll want to return to again and again.

Online Summer Reading Group

Because we’re the adventurous types and always wishing to talk about books with smart people, we thought we’d try something new: an online book discussion group.  We think we’ll always have a bias to the flesh and the face, but since it’s not likely most of you will be moving to Wichita anytime soon we’re willing to take what we can of you!  Our first book will be Marilynne Robinson’s Gilead (hardcover/paperback), her worth-the-20-year-wait follow-up to Housekeeping.  It’s one of our favorites and one of our bestsellers, so we feel pretty confident choosing this one for our little experiment in cyber-dialogue.  The conversation will start on June 26th in the Forums, so pick up your copy of the book now and join us for a lively discussion.  Order it during the Memorial Day sale and save an extra 5%!

New BookBlog

Keep an eye open for periodic posts from EDB staff in our new Bookblog.  We’ll be posting stuff--links, thoughts, book suggestions, whatever--that we think might interest you, and of course open everything up for discussion.

EDB at Flickr: Our New Photo album

We’ve started a new photo gallery at Flickr.com, and set up 3 photosets:  one for employees past and present; one for all of you, our friends; and one to document our travels and booktables.

If you have a Flickr account too, be sure to send us a notice so we can connect through the “contacts” page.

Start a local EDB Group

On our travels around the country to host book tables we never fail to encounter gatherings of intersting people who share our passion for great books, for the arts, for reading, thinking and learning.  So (we thought to ourselves) why not make it easier for these folks to find each other and get together even after the conference and the book table is gone?  We’re all hungry for stronger communities, and we’d like to help foster that.  When you visit our Forums you’ll now find a new section where our friends in distant cities can find each other.  We love the idea of having EDBgroups spread across the globe--writer and artist groups, discussion groups, reading groups, etc.--and not sure why we didn’t think of it before.  If you don’t see your city or region listed, please email us at groups@edbforums.com and we’ll make a space for you.  Those interested in serving as organizers should put out a call; get in touch with us and we’ll help any way we can.
